Language Marketplace believes in Social Responsibility

Every year Language Marketplace® chooses a charity to support. We provide the chosen charity with a percentage of our net revenue or provide some other form of sponsorship.

In, 2014 Our President and CEO is planning to once again participate in the Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon, on October 19, 2014. She will be signing up for the full marathon and will be doing more fundraising for the ALS Society of Canada. She will continue to do this for ‘our’ Charles and his family.

In 2013, Language marketplace pledged $5,000.00 as a Gold Sponsor for the 2013 Bombardier Plane Pull for ALS. Our time was just under 2 minutes, but it was a very tough 2 minutes. For a video have a look on our YouTube page. Please find a "Thank You" letter from the organizers to Language Marketplace.

Our President and CEO also took part on the Scotia Bank Waterfront Marathon, on Sunday October 20, 2013, where she ran a half marathon to raise money for the ALS Society of Canada. Please visit our YouTube video link to see her cross the finish line.http://www.youtube.com/user/LanguageMarketplace. See the black top & white scarf at the time of 225.17! This event for ALS is very dear to our hearts at Language Marketplace.

This year we have also decided to add something new - a monthly “Act of Kindness” to help at the very local level! With high unemployment and so many families struggling, we thought that helping one person/family/group a month would make a difference. We have also extended this to encourage all of our staff members to ‘volunteer’ their time outside their work hours. Staff will be paid by Language Marketplace for that time they ‘volunteer’ up to 2 days per month. For January, one of our staff identified a local minister who spends so much time helping others in his community and never asked for anything in return. We collected a few boxes of nonperishable groceries and donated $200.00 in gift cards for this family to purchase fresh food. In the fall of 2013 we also collected School bags (new bags filled with the necessities!) and donated them to minister who ships them to Guatemala each fall! Here is a Thank You Letter!

We were blessed to serve dinner to community members of Our Place Community of Hope. On the menu was Portuguese BBQ chicken, roasted potatoes, vegetable Portuguese style rice, garden salad and home baked Easter bunny cookies. A team of five Language Marketplace members from head office served the meal and a couple even tried their hand at a friendly game of pool with some residents. It was our pleasure to share our time and offer some good food to these members. "Our Place Community of Hope" promotes belonging, safety, healing and sharing for people with mental illnesses. Please visit their website for more information and consider a donation!.

In 2012, we have once again chosen the ALS Society of Canada as our focus charity. This organization became close to our hearts when one of our in-house French translators was diagnosed with the disease in March 2011.
