Gatineau Facts: Gatineau
( Ville de Gatineau) is a city
in the western region of the province of Québec,
located on the northern bank of the Ottawa River
directly across from Ottawa, Ontario. The
population of the city of Gatineau is approximately
242, 124 people. The main language spoken in Gatineau
is French.

There are several federal
and provincial government offices within Gatineau,
due to the short distance that Gatineau is from

policy of the federal government to distribute
federal jobs on both sides of the Ottawa River

was then Hull (now Hull sector in Gatineau);

of what had been the downtown core of Hull.
Place
du Portage I is the second tallest office tower
in Hull, and accommodates approximately 1,200
office workers. Terrasses de la Chaudière
is a complex of government office buildings built
in 1978 as part of Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau’s
initiative to see more federal workers based
in the Quebec side of the Ottawa River. The complex
was named after the nearby Chaudière Falls
in the Ottawa River.

consists of 4 countries that compete for first
place and are rewarded with the Prix Zeus prize
and a guaranteed spot in the competition the following
year. Another event that is hosted in Gatineau
is the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival, which takes
place on the Labor Day Weekend in September.
